An Aldi shopper has showed that you don’t have to spend a fortune on a meal for someone on Valentine’s Day to prove your love for them, as he cooked up a storm for less than £2
If you’re looking to save money this Valentine’s Day, but are still looking to make an effort for the special person in your life, look no further. One man has shared the perfect way you can make a delicious meal for your love interest without breaking the bank, as the ingredients will cost you less than £2. With different supermarkets bringing out different tempting deals over the week Valentine’s Day lands in, there are so many temptations – but some can cost a small fortune.
However, the man behind the Cost of Living Crisis Tips account shared that you can make a Valentine’s meal for just £1.87.
He went to Aldi to see what he could get for an extremely low price. First, he put a 37p garlic bulb into his basket. Then, spaghetti set him back just 28p.
He noted that the “price of mince is astronomical,” so instead, he went for a “tin of meatballs” in tomato sauce for 79p, saying they were an “absolute bargain”. Next in the basket were some chopped tomatoes for 43p. When he was home, he gave the cooking instructions so you could impress your beau.
How to make a Valentine’s Day meal for £2
He said: “Put half a pack of spaghetti in boiling salted water, then drain the meatballs out of the tin.
“Then put some butter in a pan, heat it up, put two cloves of garlic, and cook them for about 30 seconds. Add a bit of pepper, and add a bit of paprika if you’ve got it.
“Then add the meatballs and brown them off a bit. Gonna add the chopped tomatoes, then add a bit of free McDonald’s sugar to get rid of that tinned taste. A bit of salt, and a bit of oregano if you’ve got it.
“Stir it up and simmer for 15 minutes. Save half a cup of pasta water and drain your spaghetti. Add the spaghetti to the pan, toss it around, and then add your pasta water and let it simmer for a bit longer.
“You’ve now got a Lady and the Tramp-style spaghetti meatballs, and it only cost £1.87! Great deal. Get two forks, and enjoy it as they did in the film,” referencing when the two dogs were sucking on one piece of pasta and ended up almost kissing.
Another bonus, he shared, is that it’s “only one plate, and you’ll save on the washing up”.
