The ‘unimaginable loss’ of the industrial worker has created ‘profound sadness’ among his local community after he was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash
A man who died in a collision involving a lorry has been named locally, with heartbreaking tributes from the local community flooding in.
The crash happened at around 10.20am in the Omagh area in Northern Ireland on Monday, February 2. Police confirmed that the incident involved a lorry and industrial worker who was pronounced dead at the scene.
The victim, Drumquin man Cameron Donnelly, has been remembered by friends, family and local groups following his tragic passing.
Drumquin GAA club paid tribute to the man on their Facebook page, saying: “Drumquin GAA Club wishes to express its deepest sympathy to the family and friends of Cameron Donnelly following his tragic and untimely death earlier today.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the Donnelly and Patterson families at this incredibly difficult time. We extend our heartfelt condolences to all who are grieving this devastating loss.
“As a mark of respect, all club activities will be suspended until further notice. We ask the Drumquin GAA community to keep the family in their thoughts and prayers, and to respect their privacy as they mourn.”
A community Facebook group also paid tribute to Mr Donnelly. Drumquin Through The Year posted: “It is with great and profound sadness that we learn of the untimely passing of Cameron Donnelly.
“We, as a community at home and abroad, extend our sympathies to Cameron’s Mummy and Daddy Brona and Dermott, Cameron’s brother Jake and sister Darcy-Leigh as well as the extended Donnelly and Patterson Family circle at this difficult time.
“The Donnelly family have asked for their home to remain private at this time, as they begin to come to terms with their unimaginable loss. Wake and Funeral details will be posted here in due course. D’imigh tú i mbláth na hóige, ar Sholas na bhFlaitheas go raibh d’anam’. ‘You departed in the bloom of youth, may your soul be granted the Light of Heaven”.
The Donaghanie Road is closed and is expected to remain shut into Tuesday, February 3 morning. Chief Inspector Simpson, from the Collision Investigation Unit, said: “Shortly after 10.20am, police received a report of a collision involving a lorry and an industrial worker in the Donaghanie Road area of the town.
“Officers, along with colleagues from the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service and the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service, attended the scene. Sadly, the man died at the scene. “The Health and Safety Executive were also in attendance. The Donaghanie Road remains closed this evening, and is expected to remain closed overnight. “Our enquiries are continuing and we would appeal to anyone who witnessed the collision, or who may have digital footage which could assist with our investigation, to contact the Collision Investigation Unit on 101, quoting reference number 410 of 02/02/26.”
