Donna Gillet, 43, admitted engaging in sexual activity with a mentally disordered male
A carer has been sacked over the ‘wholly inappropriate behaviour’ towards a dementia patient while washing him at his nursing home.
Donna Gillet, 43, grabbed the 77-year old man’s genitals and asked if he “liked women with big bums?” When the man replied “yeah,” Gillet let him touch her bottom, later saying she had just been “groped,” Chester Crown Court heard.
Gillet, of Winsford, Cheshire was later sacked and reported to police after the witness colleague informed a senior member of staff about the sick encounter. She subsequently admitted “engaging in sexual activity with a mentally disordered male.”
The mum-of-two was sentenced to a three month-suspended sentence last Friday, and has been ordered to complete 200 hours of unpaid work as well as 20 days of rehabilitation activity. Gillet was also made to sign the Sex Offenders Register for seven years and has been banned from working with children for the rest of her life.
The patient, a father-of-one who we cannot name for legal reasons, has since passed away, the Express reports.
Judge Steven Everett told her: “This was wholly inappropriate and truly despicable behaviour upon a gentleman in the winter of his life, who was very ill and did not understand the ramifications of what was going on. You showed him no respect as he was entitled to his dignity or any care as you were a care worker and that compounded the many illnesses he was suffering.
“The only fortunate feature is that you were in the presence of a care worker who did care. The real concern is, if that was your behaviour in front of someone who did care, I dread to think of what sort of care worker you were. Happily you will be prevented from doing that in future. It is only right you should never be allowed to have vulnerable people in your care ever again.”
The incident occurred in June 2023 when the man was living at Winsford Grange Care Home which has been rated ‘inadequate’ by the Care Quality Commission. Prosecutor Philip Clemo said: “He had dementia and Parkinson’s as well as a host of other health issues and required 2 on 1 care.
“He was immobile and lacked capacity. That day the defendant and colleague Ellie Morrin were assigned to clean the man and put him in his pyjamas. The defendant was vastly more experienced having done the job for about seven ears whereas Ms Morrin had been doing it only a matter of months.
“When he was placed on the bed and put on his side it was clear he had an erection and the defendant made a seemingly light-hearted comment about him having ‘a big one’. The defendant then got some dry wipes and placed them on the patient’s penis and started to clean it in a motion that Ms Morrin immediately recognised as masturbatory.
“The defendant made a comment along the lines of ‘I knew that would work’ and repeated it when Ms Morrin questioned that. She asked the man if he liked women with big bums and he said ‘yeah’. He then went to touch the defendant’s breasts but she said he couldn’t do that.
“She said he could only touch her bum but not her breasts. She then allowed him to continue tapping her bum and when they left the room she made a comment about having just been ‘groped’.”
The court heard Ms Morrin reported what had happened to another colleague and police were alerted. Myles Wilson, defending, said: “What happened on this date made no sense. It all happened in front of another care worker. She has since lost a job she enjoyed and has not found employment since. She just wants to put the case behind her.”
