Tim Greenaway punched a council enforcement officer so hard he was left blind in one eye after the worker tried to issue a fine to a woman for littering outside a train station
A vicious thug has been jailed for nine years for a brutal attack on a council enforcement officer which left him blind in one eye.
The enforcement officer was trying to issue a fine to a woman for littering outside Vauxhall Station in June 2023 when Tim Greenaway, aged 49, of Laud Street, Lambeth, interrupted.
Greenaway raged at the worker, shouting at him and filming the officer before shoving his phone in the man’s face, a trial at the Royal Courts of Justice heard.
After the officer put his hand out and knocked Greenaway’s phone to the floor, the thug punched the worker to the ground before straddling him and raining down blows until members of the public dragged him off.
Passers-by, including an off-duty police officer, restrained Greenaway until officers from British Transport Police (BTP) arrived and arrested him.
The enforcement officer was left with life-changing injuries. The victim spent a number of days in hospital being treated for his injuries which included an operation on a fractured eye socket and a dislocated shoulder.
He will need a further operation on his eye and doctors have told him his sight in the injured eye will never return, BTP said in a statement.
BTP Detective Constable Steve Potter said: “Justice has now caught up with Greenaway thanks to our investigation, while sadly his victim continues to struggle with the consequences of this unprovoked attack over two years later.
“Greenaway’s frenzied attack has had a devastating impact on the victim. He’s a family man who had to give up his job due to the injuries he sustained and must endure further operations to reconstruct his eye socket.
“A special mention must be given to those brave members of the public who intervened and no doubt prevented the victim from sustaining further injuries. Their continued support throughout the investigation helped secure Greenaway’s conviction.
“This was a man simply doing his job when his life was changed forever by the actions of a thug. He should have been safe to carry out his role without interference, aggression and ultimately violence.
“No one should have to endure violence or intimidation while carrying out their job. Any form of abuse will simply not be tolerated and we will use every resource available to bring offenders like Greenaway to justice.”
Greenaway was found guilty of Grievous Bodily Harm with Intent and sentenced at the Royal Courts of Justice on Thursday, January 22.
