The message was sent to its customers, urging them to stop before they do anything
Three mobile network customers have been warned to remain vigilant. The provider issued guidance, urging customers to stop and think before they get themselves into financial hot water.
The telecommunications company, one of Britain’s ‘big four’ networks, sent a message to its customer base, calling for potential immediate action. It stated: “Three will never contact you and ask for your One-Time Passcode. Anyone asking is a fraudster. The only time we’ll ask for your OTP is when you contact Three directly.”
The operator, which serves more than “10 million customers, elaborated: “If someone contacts you by phone or social media claiming to be from Three, please do not share any OTP that we send to you via text or email. Fraudsters may be attempting to access your account and may try to tempt you with a large discount on your current price plan before asking for the code.”
“If you receive a suspicious text, please report it by forwarding it to 7726. For a suspicious call, text the word CALL and the number to 7726”, it further asks.
The warning follows recent rankings of the UK’s ‘worst’ and ‘best’ mobile networks. As previously reported Three was number one in the rankings thanks to strong overall speeds for its users. According to Ookla’s tests, it recorded an average download speed of 214Mbps – more than 80Mbps faster than its nearest competitor.
“That speed is also twice as fast as the UK fixed-line broadband average, which is pretty impressive. In second place was Vodafone, with EE taking third. O2 finished at the bottom of the league across all categories, delivering the slowest speeds overall.”
Ookla verified the findings, stating: “3 is the Fastest 5G Network in the United Kingdom, Q3–Q4 2025. The Speedtest Award for Fastest Network is based on Speed Score and provides a measure of a network’s throughput and responsiveness. It combines download and upload speeds with latency metrics to give an overall view of speed performance.”
