A vile thug tricked his way into a 95-year-old woman’s home before he tied her hands and demanded her purse, police have said.
The man entered the property offering to clean the pensioner’s windows. But once inside he bound her hands and threatened her – telling her to give him her purse and cash.
The cowardly thief was disrupted and fled when a friend of the elderly woman entered the house, in Little Hulton, Salford, and confronted him. Police said thankfully no injuries were reported and the victim is now being supported by officers, following the incident at 11am on Tuesday.
Greater Manchester Police said that there have been no arrests in connection with the incident yet. However, they said that enquiries were still ongoing.
They added that there would be an additional police presence in the area of the following days. The spokesman appealed for people to come forward with any evidence or information.
Det Insp Paul Davies commended the action of the woman’s friend who arrived at the house and confronted the man before calling the police. He said that the situation could have been a lot more serious.
Det Insp Paul Davies, said: “This was a vile incident in which a woman was tied up and threatened in an address, and we are determined to locate the man responsible.
“Thankfully, this was not a more serious situation and we commend the brave actions of the lady’s friend who confronted the man and called officers.
“As we progress this investigation, we are appealing for anyone with any information to please come forward. It could be something big or small– it all assists in our work.”
The public have been asked to provide and CCTV footage from dashcams or doorbells that may help with enquiries.
A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said: “No arrests have been made but extensive enquires are ongoing and an additional police presence will be in the area over the coming days.
“As part of our enquiries and response, we have attended the scene and gathered evidence which is currently being assessed and acted upon. Officers are now asking the public for any information that they may have, and that could help with their investigation.
“This includes any CCTV, dashcam, or doorbell footage from around the area at the time- or anyone who saw anything suspicious.”
The man is described as white male and approximately in his late 60s – early 70s. He had short mousy brown hair which was combed back, no facial hair, glasses, and appeared well-kempt. He was wearing a dark raincoat jacket, jeans and dark-coloured shoes.
