The Loch Capsule and Capsule Solo countertop dishwashers cost £10 a year to run, according to the brand
Space-saving, no-plumbing appliances are surging in popularity recently, especially among those living in compact flats and rental properties where fitting permanent fixtures simply isn’t an option. Scottish independent brand Loch has carved out a niche in this market, with its Capsule countertop dishwashers offering a sensible alternative to washing up by hand without hogging precious worktop real estate.
The company has now slashed prices across its entire range, knocking £50 off both the Capsule and Capsule Solo models – which Loch bills as the ‘most energy-efficient compact dishwashers on the market today’. Whilst the two models deliver the same fundamental cleaning performance, they’re tailored for slightly different requirements.
The original Capsule dishwasher, now reduced from £399.99 to £339.99, is the more comprehensive option of the pair. It operates using an independent water tank but also allows users the flexibility to hook it up to plumbing if desired.
It accommodates rinse aid and features UV light sanitation, making it ideal for those wanting extra wash customisation or a more fixed kitchen arrangement. It also boasts 10 different wash programmes to select from, UV-assisted drying and a ‘three-stage debris filter’ that traps larger food particles.
Despite its slender 26cm frame, it boasts capacity for up to 35 items (using a dual tray), accommodating everything from large dinner plates to full-sized frying pans. Shoppers needn’t fret over running costs either – the website claims it’s the most energy-efficient mini dishwasher on the market, setting households back just £10 annually for typical two-person use, reports the Daily Star.

Despite its compact 26cm width, it can hold up to 35 items, including large plates and full-sized frying pans.
Another standout feature is its whisper-quiet 57 dB operation, comparable to a low-noise washing machine and considerably quieter than most vacuum cleaners, keeping kitchen background noise to a minimum. It’s also equipped with an integrated carry handle and comes with an optional travel bag for those needing to relocate or transport it.
The Capsule Solo is the the more pared-back and, as the brand puts it, budget-friendly option of the pair. Reduced to £297.49 from £349.99, it offers identical washing performance, capacity and efficiency to the Capsule but is engineered exclusively for non-plumbed use.
Without rinse aid and UV sanitation features, it is a more straightforward choice for anyone seeking an uncomplicated, portable dishwasher requiring minimal installation. Both variants incorporate a stainless steel interior that maintains heat effectively, enabling dishes to be washed and dried in as little as 15 minutes.
It consumes just 2.6 litres per quick wash cycle, which Loch asserts is ‘up to four times less than washing by hand’, making it highly economical. Its dimensions measure 46 cm in height, 26 cm in width and 50 cm in depth, which Loch maintains makes it the ‘narrowest dishwasher on the market’ as well.
Both models are versatile enough to perch on a worktop, slot into a base unit or be shuttled between rooms, with detachable trays, filters and baskets ensuring upkeep is straightforward. For budget-conscious shoppers, Argos also has the Bush Slimline Dishwasher for £259.
This compact 45cm model is touted as ideal for tighter kitchens and boasts six washing programmes, including a quick cycle that powers through a full load in just half an hour. Another contender is the eklipt Table Top Dishwasher, available for £209.99 on Amazon.
With more than 400 snapped up in the past month alone, this pint-sized appliance accommodates four complete place settings and serves as a 3-in-1 wonder—washing, drying and storing dishes all in one unit.
Returning to the Capsule dishwashers, one delighted buyer raved online: “We’ve been looking for years for a dishwasher that fits a narrow spot near the sink that didn’t need to be hooked up to the faucet or plumbed in and this has been fabulous. I have already recommended it to a friend.”
Another enthused: ” WOW…..What an amazingly awesome mini dishwasher!
“I purchased the Capsule due to the options it offered and the versatility of it being mobile with a built-in carry handle or placed on a countertop or in a kitchen base unit. Also the choice of program and plumbing options. The ease and convenience of filling and cleaning the water tank(s) is just brilliant. My Capsule dishwasher arrived within two days of placing the order. The set up was easy along with the manual full of tips and information to ensure you get the most out of this mighty little machine. Easy to clean the inside with a removable tray, cutlery basket, sprayers and filters and stainless steel sides. The digital touch control panel is clear, easy to use and shows the program counting down during your selected cycle. I have not used the sink since this arrived. I absolutely LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my Capsule dishwasher and would highly recommend it. Thank you Loch Electronics, this is just fabulous.”
However, within a more detailed review, one user pointed out a minor drawback with the appliance, noting: “The only “downside” is that it fits a little less than I imagined; but it’s pretty connected to the size of items.”
A separate customer echoed similar concerns, remarking: “The capacity is quite small after all or maybe I just have big cups and plates.”
Despite this, the majority of purchasers expressed satisfaction, with one user commenting on the Capsule Solo: “Been using it every day for a month, couldn’t be happier.”
