Police have been searching for Drew Perham, 24 who was reported missing after he didn’t return home from a night out – a body was later found in the water
A teenager has been arrested on suspicion of murder following the discovery of a man’s body in Plymouth waters today (Sunday, January 25).
Drew Perham, 24, was reported missing after failing to return home following a night out. A man’s body was recovered from the water at a marina in Plymouth this afternoon. Police conducted searches of the area and established a cordon on Soap Street, close to Millbay Marina.
While formal identification is yet to be completed, Drew’s family have been informed, reports Plymouth Live. A 19-year-old man was initially arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, but has now been further arrested on suspicion of murder.
At the time of publication, he remains in police custody.
PlymouthLive reported a substantial police operation in the King Point Marina vicinity.
Drew’s family have said: “We have unfortunately received the most horrendous news, our beautiful and wonderful Drew Perham has cruelly been taken from us. We appreciate all the support and messages, but right now we need the time to navigate this together.”
Photographs captured from the scene at approximately 1pm today (January 25) reveal police officers and a police diving and marine unit vehicle present at the scene.
Detective Superintendent James Dowler said: “This investigation has been very fast paced, and the community will be aware of the significant policing presence that has been in the Millbay area as our enquiries have progressed throughout the day. This will continue in the coming days.
“Formal identification is yet to take place, however, all of our thoughts are with Drew’s family and friends at this unbelievably difficult time.
“I would like to ask people to avoid speculating about this case – we are in the early stages of our investigation to establish the full circumstances and online speculation in particular, is not helpful.
“Anyone who has information which may assist the police investigation is asked to please get in touch and report it. We are particularly interested in people who may have been in the Millbay area between 1am and 4am during the early hours of Saturday January 24th.”
Devon and Cornwall Police have issued a statement saying: “Detectives are appealing for information following the suspicious death of a man in Plymouth.
