They have been accused or convicted of crimes from £2.5m insider dealing to a scam that defrauded 20,000 people
Nine people who have been convicted or accused of fraud offences are on the Crimestoppers’ most-wanted list. They include a couple convicted of mortgage fraud who were last seen heading to France on the Eurotunnel, and a man involved in a ‘carousel fraud’ that cost the UK taxpayer £25million.
One scam involved fake travel agencies set up to attract customers by offering cut-price holidays. The prices were so low that legitimate companies could not compete. In each case, the travel agency ceased to trade, leaving customers without a holiday. In the end, around 20,000 people were left out of pocket.
One man, who has called himself a doctor, has spun three versions of his own backstory, and people have been warned not to hire him for any legal services.
