An 18-year-old student died at Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College in Darlington on Tuesday afternoon, with police confirming the teenager was pronounced dead at the scene
A school has paid tribute after a teenage student tragically died at the site just days into the new term.
Emergency services rushed to Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College in Darlington at 1.30pm on Tuesday, January 13 . Durham Constabulary revealed its officers had responded to concerns regarding the welfare of a man at the college.
Despite best efforts by staff and emergency services an 18 year old, who has not been formerly identified, was declared dead at the scene, with his death not being treated as suspicious.
A force spokesperson said: “Police were called shortly after 1.30pm on Tuesday, January 13 to reports of concerns for the welfare of a man at the Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College, in Darlington. Sadly, an 18-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.
“His family have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers. The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College issued a statement saying: “We are very sorry to inform you that an 18 year old member of the College community passed away whilst at College yesterday afternoon.”, reports Chronicle Live.
“Our heartfelt sympathies go out to his family and friends at this sad time. Specialist support services are in place at the College for anyone affected.”
An email added: “As you may be aware, an isolated incident occurred at the college on Tuesday, January 13. We are currently working with relevant agencies in relation to this and therefore there will be no lessons or sporting fixtures at the college on Wednesday, January 14.
“The small number of scheduled public examinations will take place as planned. We will provide you with more information as soon as we are able to do so.”
