Last year saw 54 retailers go bust, resulting in the loss of 3,080 stores and 30,153 employees, according to the Centre for Retail Research.
It comes as monthly retail data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) showed that retail sales volumes dipped by 0.1% in November.
Here are all the high street closures happening this month.
River Island
River Island will close at least 27 stores this month. The struggling fashion retailer previously announced it would close 33 stores as part of a major restructure.
Its branches in Brighton, Edinburgh Princes Street, Great Yarmouth, and Stockton-on-Tees were part of this list, and these closed in the last few months of 2025.
Norwich, Norfolk and Workington, Cumbria are also part of the list of 33 stores, but dates for these branches have yet to be confirmed.

Poundland
Poundland is set to close 12 shops in January as part of a restructure that was approved by the High Court.
The discount retailer shut 57 stores by the end of last September under the plans, after it was sold to investment firm Gordon Brothers for £1.

Primark
Primark closed its Dartford store on January 3. The high street fashion chain said the closure, which is believed to be the first in over a decade, was due to the building being in serious need of repair.
Philippa Nibbs, Primark’s director of sales for UK South and South East, told The Sun: “This difficult decision was informed by the extensive repair work required to the building, which given the close proximity to two other Primark stores, is just not viable.
“We’re pleased that more than half of our colleagues will be taking up roles in nearby stores and for those colleagues leaving the business, we are focused on supporting them.”
Lloyds, Halifax and Bank of Scotland
Lloyds Bank, Halifax and Bank of Scotland, which are all part of Lloyds Banking Group, will close 34 bank branches this month. This includes 17 Lloyds branches, eight Halifax sites and nine Bank of Scotland branches.
Lloyds previously said the closures are down to more people using online banking.
