Police swoop on Edinburgh Tesco after ‘weapon’ incident
Shoppers looked on in horror after armed police burst into a Tesco store following reports of a person with a weapon.
Images from the scene show a major police response to the alleged weapon incident at Tesco Extra in the Corstorphine area of Edinburgh on Friday night.
A string of officers can be seen working at the crime scene while several police vehicles are parked outside the front of the superstore. Black-clad members of a police armed response unit can be seen amongst the regular officers.
Police were called to the store on Meadow Place Road just after 4pm after concerns were raised for a woman with an alleged weapon, the Daily Record reports.
A 20-year-old woman was arrested and charged in connection with the incident, a police spokesperson said.
Police Scotland confirmed that armed response officers had attended as a precaution. The 20-year-old woman has now been released and will appear in court at a later date.
A spokeswoman said: “Around 4.10pm on Friday, January 9, we received a report of concern for a person with a weapon at Meadow Place Road, Edinburgh.
“Emergency services attended and a 20-year-old woman was arrested and charged in connection and released on an undertaking to appear at court at a later date.”
