Another wasp appeared at Alexander Palace during the PDC World Championship final between Luke Littler and Gian van Veen, forcing the players to stop in their tracks

Luke Littler had to hit pause on his quest to win £1million in the PDC World Championship Final – because the Alexandra Palace’s wasp problem returned. Multiple players have to deal with wasps flying around the oche throughout the tournament.

Littler, 18, was the latest to be bothered by one. On his way to going 4-1 up in the final against Gian van Veen on Saturday, he attempted to flick the insect away.

Rather hilariously, the crowd chanted: “Nananananananananna, Ally Pally Wasp, Pally Wasp, Ally Pally Wasp,” to the tune of KC and The Sunshine Band’s Give It Up.

Wasps have gained notoriety at this year’s World Championship, so much so that Sky Sports aired a montage during the break between sets. Earlier in the tournament, Jurjen van der Velde brought bug spray on stage before his clash with Danny Noppert.

In 2023, Ross Smith was stung three times while on stage. And a wasp returned for the final on Saturday.

It seemed to be the only thing that could stop Littler, who come back from losing the first set to take a commanding lead. Reigning champion Littler is bidding to win back-to-back world titles after his historic triumph in 2025.

Having lost to Luke Humphries in his first World Championship final in 2024, Littler returned to thrash Michael van Gerwen 7-3. Van Gerwen was the previous youngest winner of the tournament, having triumphed aged 24 in 2014.
