A man who was allegedly stabbed to death in a busy town just minutes before New Year’s Day has been pictured for the first time.
Joe Burton, 23, tragically died at the scene following an alleged stabbing in Bury. Police attended Tarn Drive, in the Redvales area of the town, shortly before midnight on New Year’s Eve.
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said his family are being supported by specially trained officers ‘as they grieve their loss.’
The force this morning confirmed a 25-year-old man had been charged with his murder. Anthony Junior Murray has been charged with both murder and possession of a bladed article. He today appeared at Manchester Magistrates’ Court and was remanded in custody to appear at Minshull Street Crown Court on Monday.
A number of heartbroken friends have now paid tribute to Mr Burton. Chelsea Stonier, 22, told the Manchester Evening News : “He was the most amazing friend, who would give anyone his time of day. And to think he’s gone has broken us all. We will make sure his memory forever lives on. He did everything for us and now it’s our turn. We all love you Joe rest easy pal.”
Latisha Louise, 22, who said she knew Joe ‘all the way through primary school and high school’, described him as ‘one of the most loving, caring and noisy in a good way kind of person.’ “He filled people’s lives with love and laughter and never took his friends or family for granted. Joe, I will truly miss you and there is no one else like you” she added.
Bentley Tonge, 22, said he was a ‘happy, energetic person’ and was ‘one of the realest people I knew.’ “He always had time for people and would always be there no matter what time of day it was” he said, adding he would ‘never forget the endless memories.’
A woman in her 20s who was also has been bailed pending further enquiries. GMP say their investigation ‘remains ongoing.’
