Five people were taken to hospital following a crash between a car and a van on the A4119 bypass at Williamstown, near Tonypandy in the Rhondda on Monday morning
A mum-of-four has been killed in a serious road collision with four others rushed to hospital as a teenage is arrested after the ‘needless’ crash.
Donna Ball, 48, died following a collision on the A4119 bypass near Williamstown in the Rhondda Valley on Monday. The driver of the car was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries following the crash but sadly died in hospital on Tuesday. Her young daughter is also in hospital.
The driver of a van, a 19-year-old from Newport, south Wales, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, as well as two counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He has been bailed for further enquiries until March 30.
The victim’s husband said the family were devastated. Paying tribute to Donna, her husband said: “We, as a family, are devastated by the sudden, tragic, and needless death of our beloved Donna.
“We would like to take this opportunity to express our profound gratitude to all the emergency services who attended, including the air ambulance, Accident and Emergency, and the critical care teams at the University Hospital of Wales.
“Ongoing, I cannot express my thanks enough to the staff and doctors of Owl Ward and Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital for Wales for their care of our daughter.
“Donna’s passing has left a huge void that can never be filled. Our old lives have ended; our lives without her begin now. We are overwhelmed by the messages of love and condolence we have received. We take great solace in the high regard in which she was held by so many. Rest easy, my love, until I see you again.”
WalesOnline report that police are appealling for witnesses to the collision or anyone with dashcam footage of the incident to come forward. Officers are also interested in any information regarding the driving behaviour of the driver of the van leading up to the collision.
A South Wales Police statement read: “Just before 11:25am on Monday, we received reports of a collision on the A4119 bypass at Williamstown, Tonypandy, involving the driver of a van and the driver of a car.
“The driver of the car, mother-of-four Donna Ball, 48, died in hospital on Tuesday. Her family is receiving support from our Family Liaison Officers.
“The 19-year-old driver of the van, who is from Newport, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, as well as two counts of causing serious injury by dangerous. He has been bailed for further enquiries until March 30.”
