The Met Office says motorists in 108 different areas should consider keeping nine essential items in their cars as weather warnings have been issued until Monday.
Several weather warnings for snow and ice have been issued across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland for the coming days as forecasters say some regions could see as much as 16 inches of the white stuff.
All of the warnings say motorists can expect delays as snow and ice may impact roads. As such, the Met Office advises people to keep essential items in their cars. It lists: “Warm clothing, food, water, a blanket, a torch, ice scraper/de-icer, a warning triangle, high visibility vest and an in-car phone charger.”

Met Office weather warning for snow and ice in Scotland
A yellow warning for snow and ice is in place across northern Scotland, where the Met Office says as much as 30cm (12 inches) of snow could settle on high ground, with 10cm possible at lower levels. People are told to expect power cuts and travel delays. This warning is due to expire at midnight tomorrow.

Amber Met Office weather warning for snow in Scotland
An amber warning for snow comes into force in parts of northern and eastern Scotland at midday tomorrow, lasting until midday on Saturday. The Met Office says as much as 40cm (16 inches) of the white stuff could settle on the ground, with “temporary blizzard conditions” on the cards.

A yellow warning for snow and ice comes into force at midnight in Northern Ireland, lasting until 10am tomorrow. Snow showers are expected to primarily impact northern regions, where accumulations could reach 2cm. People are told to be wary of slips and falls on icy surfaces.

Another yellow warning for snow and ice covers the east coast of England for all of Saturday. People are told to expect longer journey times as roads and railways will be impacted. As much as 8cm of snow could settle on the ground in places.

An expanded warning for snow and ice replaces the previous warning in Scotland on Saturday. It is in place for all of Saturday and Sunday, as 30cm (12 inches) of snow is possible over higher ground. Low-lying regions could see as much as 15cm (six inches).
