Holly Ramsay and Adam Peaty are set to wed in Bath Abbey tomorrow, and could the festive wedding timing be inspired by Gordon and Tana Ramsay’s own wedding day, 29 years ago?
Holly Ramsay and Adam Peaty are set to tie the knot at Bath Abbey tomorrow, but the timing of their festive wedding has led some to wonder whether the couple were inspired by a very special family milestone: the Christmas marriage of Holly’s parents, Gordon and Tana Ramsay, 29 years ago.
The renowned chef and his wife celebrated their 29th wedding anniversary on December 21. Sharing throwback images from their 1996 wedding, Gordon described Tana as his “best friend”, writing: “29yrs ago I got to marry my best friend, what a journey and thank you. Love you so much.”
In an interview with The Guardian, Tana revealed that when they first met, she thought Gordon was a “complete arrogant arse.” It was when they met a second time that sparks flew, and her opinion of her now husband of almost 30 years softened.
In an interview with People, at the time of their 25th anniversary in 2021, Tana gushed: “When it comes to our busy schedules, people say, ‘It must be hard having to be apart so often. It is, but I feel really lucky that I still get butterflies when we haven’t seen each other for a few weeks. I never want to take that for granted, even with all these kids to worry about. We have a lot of fun.”

The close timing between the Ramsays’ anniversary and Holly and Adam’s wedding has left people questioning whether the young couple intentionally chose the festive season to echo Holly’s parents’ almost three-decade-long love story. While Holly and Adam’s nuptials coincide with the Christmas period, they also seem to keep in line with the family tradition of tying the knot during the festive season.
In the lead-up to their wedding, Adam, 30, and Holly, 25, took a break from planning to enjoy a festive getaway to Finland, joined by Holly’s parents, Gordon and Tana. Unfortunately, while the couple celebrated abroad, the Peaty family faced disappointment. Adam’s mother, Caroline, turned 60 on December 18, but the milestone was reportedly overlooked by the couple in their social media posts. Despite family tensions, Adam and Holly returned to London to dine at Gordon’s Lucky Cat restaurant in Mayfair, enjoying sushi, prawns, and caviar with friends.
Family disputes appear to have played a large role in the run-up to the wedding. Caroline Peaty is understood to be excluded from the ceremony, while Adam’s sister Bethany is the only family member from his side expected to attend. The family rift reportedly began after some Peaty relatives were not invited to the engagement party, and was further highlighted when Caroline missed Holly’s hen do, which included Tana, Tilly, Victoria Beckham, and close family friends.
While family tensions continue on the Peatys’ side, the festive timing of the wedding, just days after her parents’ anniversary, could be seen as a nod to the Ramsay family’s own holiday wedding tradition. As the couple prepares to exchange vows, the festive timing emphasises the legacy of holiday weddings within the Ramsay family and their success and longevity. The question of whether Adam and Holly intentionally aligned their nuptials with Gordon and Tana’s Christmas anniversary remains unknown, but the coincidence adds a symbolic layer to the wedding.
With the Christmas wedding tomorrow, the resemblance to Holly’s parents’ 29-year-old celebration adds a sentimental angle to the big day, while also highlighting the influence of Gordon and Tana on Holly and their future son-in-law, whom Caroline, Adam’s mum, claims is in “Gordon’s clutches.”
It doesn’t only seem to be the Peaty family who are at odds with the couple. Local residents in Bath have reportedly raised concerns about their decision to book the Abbey exclusively for their 90-minute ceremony, effectively blocking other weddings for the day. While the typical hire fee for the historic venue is around £2,500, it’s believed Adam and Holly paid considerably more for exclusive use.
