The pub’s owners said ‘it wasn’t the greatest Christmas’ after arriving to find a car embedded in the building’s ground floor seating area on Kirton High Street near Boston
A shocking image captures the moment the front of a car smashed through a Lincolnshire pub on Christmas morning.
The vehicle ploughed into the ground floor of the Old King’s Head on the High Street in Kirton, near Boston, early on Christmas Day. The crash happened at around 5.30am, leaving the front of the car embedded in the pub’s wall. Shocking images show the vehicle rammed into the building, smashing through glass and brickwork just hours before festive celebrations were about to go ahead.
A spokesperson for the Old King’s Head confirmed the incident, saying the car crashed into the pub’s ground floor during the early morning. “It wasn’t the greatest Christmas we have had,” they said.
“Luckily, we weren’t open on the day; we only opened a few months ago and decided to close on Christmas, but there were guests in the room above. Thankfully, a structural engineer determined that the building had not suffered any structural damage, but we still moved the guests to another room.”
The owner added that the team had been working hard to repair the damage, and were hoping to re-open tomorrow, December 27, Lincolnshire Live reports.
“It’s been a bit of a whirlwind 24 hours, we are just glad no one was injured,” the spokesperson added. “Our friends, some of whom are builders, have all come together, and we have managed to install plasterboard to close the hole that’s been left.
“We hope we can be back open tomorrow, it’s structurally safe and watertight, so it should hopefully be no problem to welcome guests again tomorrow.”
