Four individuals, including an eight-year-old boy, have been rushed to hospital following a severe collision on the East Lancashire Road on Christmas Eve.
Emergency services were summoned to Stonebridge Lane, near Vikings Landing, at approximately 8.40pm on Wednesday, 24th December, after receiving reports of a two-car collision. A large-scale response was initiated, with police, fire and ambulance teams attending the scene.
Merseyside Police confirmed that the crash involved a grey car and a Ford Puma at the junction of East Lancashire Road and Stonebridge Lane in Croxteth. The male driver of the grey car sustained serious injuries and was transported to hospital.

The male driver of the Ford Puma, a female front-seat passenger and an eight year old boy were also taken to hospital. Police stated that the driver’s condition is serious, while the woman and child suffered injuries that are not thought to be serious.
A cordon was established while traffic was rerouted away from the incident. The East Lancashire Road remains shut between Stonebridge Lane and Lower House Lane with traffic diversions in effect, reports the Liverpool Echo.
Police have urged drivers to seek alternative routes and steer clear of the area. Images from the scene depict a substantial emergency services presence, with two severely damaged vehicles involved. One car has had its roof removed, and wreckage is strewn across the road.
Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service (MFRS) reported that crews were alerted at 8.42pm and arrived on the scene four minutes later. Two fire engines and a specialist search and rescue team were dispatched.
While two individuals had managed to escape before the firefighters arrived, two others were trapped inside the vehicles. An investigation is currently underway and forensic examinations are being conducted at the scene.
A spokesperson for MFRS stated: “One casualty was swiftly removed using a longboard to assist. The other casualty was rescued by crews by carrying out a full roof removal. Both casualties have been handed over to NWAS to receive care and be transported to hospital. The incident is beginning to scale down and fire crews are preparing to leave the scene.”
