The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is reminding millions of Brits that they could be eligible for a £150 discount this winter. The Warm Home Discount, a one-off discount of £150 applied directly to the energy bills of those who meet certain criteria, is designed to assist vulnerable individuals or those who may struggle to cover their energy bills during the costly winter months.

This year, an additional 2.7 million people will be offered the Warm Home Discount, as the government has relaxed the rules. Previously, the discount was only available to those in England and Wales who received the Guarantee Credit of Pension Credit.

According to DWP guidelines, you’re eligible for the Warm Home Discount if you reside in England and Wales and either receive the Guarantee Credit element of Pension Credit or are on a low income. If you live in Scotland, you’ll qualify if you get the Guarantee Credit element of Pension Credit, or are on a low income in Scotland and meet your energy supplier’s criteria for the scheme.

In a recent alert on X, formerly Twitter, the DWP reminded people about the scheme, stating: “Have you heard about the Warm Home Discount Scheme? If you’re eligible, the £150 credit will be automatically applied to your electricity account.”

However, the department also issued a warning: “If you get a call asking you to apply for the discount, it’s a scam”. In an accompanying video, DWP revealed that 28 energy suppliers are participating in the scheme.
