The store says its sell-out AAdvent Calendar “is back to save Christmas morning”
Currys has brought back its battery-filled Advent calendar for another year due to popular demand after it sold out rapidly last year. The electrical appliances high-street retailer is hoping to help save Christmas morning toy meltdowns with the return of its sell-out Logik AAdvent Calendar.
Inside, there are twelve AAA batteries and twelve AA batteries. Currys says the limited edition Advent calendar, complete with a new festive design for 2025, won’t stick around for long, claiming: “It sold out in a single day last year.”
The limited edition AAdvent Calendar is available to buy for £5 whilst stocks last. The store also reminds shoppers to keep the calendar safely away from children and pets.
A Currys spokesperson said: “Three in five families have faced tears and tantrums over forgotten batteries. Parents spend an average of 13 minutes searching the house before giving up.
“Currys is on a mission to ensure Christmas morning is stress-free and fully charged. With Currys’ own data showing battery sales more than double over the festive period, the AAdvent calendar is a practical must have to help families stay stocked up ahead of celebrations.”
They added: “And at just £5, it’s fantastic value – the batteries inside would cost £7.98 if bought as separate packs of 12 AA and 12 AAA batteries from Currys. Plus, it’s a lot more fun opening up 24 doors than digging through the junk drawer.”
Currys Category Director, Michelle Gorringe-Smith commented: “We were blown away by the response to last year’s AAdvent calendar – it sold out in hours. It turns out, practical gifts really can be the ultimate Christmas luxury, which is why we’re thrilled to bring it back and help even more families avoid those all too familiar meltdowns, because no one wants to hear ‘batteries not included’ on Christmas Day.”
A description of the Advent calendar online reads: “It turns out that 3 in 5 families forget to buy batteries for Christmas toys… Aaaand cue the tears. You’ve got the power to supercharge your Christmas with this AAdvent calendar.
“It isn’t full of tasty treats (sadly) – but it is packed full of power. It hides a handy battery behind each door, so you can avoid raiding drawers and gadgets on Christmas morning. Smiles all round.”
Toys usually don’t include batteries due to issues such as cost, safety concerns, and the limited shelf life. Batteries can make the toy more expensive and heavier, and they might wear out or leak, which could harm the toy if it’s stored for a long time.
Not including batteries also helps prevent safety risks, like a child swallowing them or getting hurt from a leaking battery, and it helps keep the price down for buyers.
