World darts champion Luke Littler has shared a photo in which he celebrates passing his driving test but the teenager needed to put multiple failures behind him first

Darts star Luke Littler is celebrating passing his driving test, and it has been a long time coming. The world champion needed just one attempt to pass his practical test, but his theory test was a tougher proposition.

Littler, 18, failed his theory exam six times before finally getting a pass. And he can now legally drive, with Colin Price Driving School sharing a photo of the proud darts prodigy on social media and Littler himself resharing the post.

“Congratulations to Luke Littler on passing his driving test today at Warrington on his first attempt with ZERO driving faults,” the caption read. “Absolutely amazing achievement well done now enjoy that car.”

Over the summer, Littler posted his results from his fifth theory test failure. “Fifth time and counting,” he wrote, showing his scores of 44 on hazard perception and 41 on multiple choice – just two marks off a pass.

The teenager passed his theory test in September, but only just. While he was comfortably clear of the 44 needed to pass hazard perception, his 43/50 on multiple choice was right on the line – though he left nothing to chance in the practical.

When he won the world title in January 2025, Littler opened up on his plans to spend some of the prize money on a new car. However, he recognised the need to pass his test sooner rather than later.

“I’ve always loved a Mercedes A-Class,” he said. “Just a small car. Last year I was looking at driving and I loved Ford Focuses, but now I’ve gone up in the world just a little! What model? No idea. Just an A-Class. I don’t know the different models.

“I’m going to have to do my lessons before I get into my twenties when it’ll be too late and I can’t be bothered. It won’t be a birthday present. I think it would be a birthday present from me to me.”

Littler’s good news comes as he prepares to begin his defence of the PDC World Championship in December. He has already booked his place in the Players Championship Finals, though his European Championship run in Dortmund came to an early end at the hands of James Wade.

His Players Championship Finals campaign will begin against Jeffrey De Graaf of Sweden, with either Ross Smith or Niko Springer awaiting in the second round. He is in the opposite half of the draw to world No.1 Luke Humphries, meaning the pair can’t meet until the final, but top seed Gerwyn Price is among the stars looking to cut Littler’s run short.

Littler is one of a number of household names to have qualified for the upcoming World Championship via the order of merit. The tournament at Alexandra Palace gets underway on December 11, with a format change meaning the 32 seeds – of which Littler is one – no longer get a bye to the second round.
