A number of Premier League sides are set to be in Carabao Cup action on Wednesday evening but fans of Arsenal, Manchester City, Brighton and Swansea could face serious delays

Two Carabao Cup clashes are under threat of chaos with major delays threatening fans’ journeys to Wednesday’s games. Five games are scheduled to take place on the night, with a host of Premier League sides in action.

Manchester City travel to Swansea, while Arsenal welcome Premier League rivals Brighton to the Emirates Stadium. Liverpool host Crystal Palace and Wolves welcome Chelsea to Molineux, with the final game seeing Newcastle take on Tottenham Hotspur at St James’ Park.

The majority of those games are expected to take place without a hitch but some are set to be impacted by major delays on the roads and rail network. Brighton fans have already been told to find an alternative route to North London after a person had been hit by a train between the Haywards Heath and Three Bridges stations.

A statement from Southern Railway added: “We’re very sorry to advise that a person has been hit by a train between Haywards Heath and Three Bridges. All lines are currently blocked.

“We’re working with Network Rail and the emergency services to deal with this incident as sensitively, quickly and safely as possible. We’d like to thank you for bearing with us.”

A statement from Brighton ahead of Wednesday’s game added: “For anyone heading up to the Emirates tonight, please be aware of current conditions on the trains!”

Away from Arsenal’s clash with Brighton, supporters attending Man City’s showdown with Championship side Swansea are also set to be impacted after what was described as a ‘serious collision’ on the A4067 – the main route to the stadium for those leaving the M4.

A statement from Swansea’s Supporter services read: “Travel update | The A4067 is currently closed in both directions following a serious collision. This is expected to remain closed for some time. Supporters are advised to seek alternative routes to the Swansea.com Stadium.”

Brentford, Fulham and Cardiff City all booked their spots in the fifth round of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday evening. The draw for the next round is due to take place on Wednesday evening once all games have been concluded.

Newcastle won the competition last season, beating Liverpool 2-1 at Wembley Stadium back in March. The fifth round of the competition will take place in the week commencing 15 December, with the two-legged semi-finals scheduled across January and February next year.
