Martin Lewis’s money-saving trick has been doing the rounds online – and it’s easy to see why. From reducing energy bills to keeping homes warmer, this simple hack is a must-try this winter

As the cold weather arrives, Brits are searching for clever methods to keep warm without sending energy bills through the roof.

And TikTok user Sam Calver has recently revealed a brilliant hack that’s poised to be a game-changer this winter.

Sharing the tip he discovered from money-saving expert Martin Lewis, Sam said: “I can’t believe I’ve only just found out about this central heating trick.

“All I seem to be doing is turning the heating up all the time, but I saw Martin Lewis talking about the radiator foil hack, and I had to give it a go. I grabbed myself some radi savers – actually really cheap and you get about five metres of it.”

“You just cut it to size, slide it down the back of your radiator, and it now reflects the heat from your radiator back into the room rather than seeping through your walls. It means you can have your heating on less and save a lot of money over time.”

The video has since gained hundreds of likes, with numerous viewers keen to try out the clever trick for themselves.

One delighted commenter revealed their own experience, posting: “I done the whole room – walls, roof – even the windows. I honestly know how the Xmas turkey feels sitting in its tin foil all day. Very warm, but very dark.”

Another added: “It works well. Done it since the 80s. Also, put thick aluminium foil on the ceiling. The room becomes even warmer as you don’t lose heat to the flat upstairs.”

Meanwhile, a third remarked: “People have been doing this for donkeys years.”

Back in 2022, Martin Lewis shared a savvy heating tip on his programme, the Martin Lewis Money Show Live. He suggested that placing foil behind your radiator could reflect some much-needed heat back into your room.

While you can purchase specialist radiator foil, Martin pointed out that ordinary tin foil works just as well and is significantly cheaper. However, not everyone is sold on the idea, with some arguing there’s insufficient evidence to back up the claim.

Despite this, many have praised the trick online. In addition, Martin previously shared another tip – applying cling film over single glazed windows to trap air and minimise heat loss.

This clever hack might even help reduce those annoying condensation streaks that appear when warm air meets cold glass surfaces.
