Now that the sun’s here, you need to be applying one of the best face sunscreens every day. This is the one that’s got all the beauty editors talking – and it’s worth it, says ours
It’s pretty common skincare knowledge by now that one of the best anti-ageing things you can do for your skin if to wear high factor sunscreen on your face every day. They’re not always the most enjoyable thing to apply, however – with many feeling greasy, looking white, or irritating sensitive skin – but there’s a new one out that’s going viral amongst beauty experts for its flawless feel and finish.
Australian sun care brand Ultra Violette already makes some really great SPFs, but its latest launch might just be its best yet. Ultra Violette Future Fluid SPF50+ Superlight Mineral Skinscreen is, as its name suggest, a high factor mineral facial sun cream (mineral formulas are great for anyone with sensitive skin or eyes), but it’s just how lovely it looks and feels on the skin. Our beauty team have been trying it out and – spoiler – it’s totally worth the hype. Here’s why…
Superdrug launches ‘most affordable’ Botox in a bottle skincare at £18
Meghan Markle’s go-to £20 supersize anti-ageing face cream is now on sale at Boots
My skin’s not especially sensitive to sunscreen so I usually use chemical ones without any issues, but I do suffer with occasional breakouts, so I’m always on the lookout for face SPFs that won’t clog pores or feel greasy on my skin. This new Ultra Violette one, priced at £38, is exactly that, and it’s no surprise everyone’s going crazy for it.
It’s a fairly watery consistency that glides on beautifully; it immediately feels like you haven’t got anything at all on your skin, yet your complexion just feels naturally ‘better’: hydrated, plumped and smoothed. It also layers perfectly with all my other skincare and make-up – no pilling or greasiness. It looks like it’s tinted when you first squeeze it out, but once rubbed in it completely disappears.

A new mineral facial SPF from leading Australian sun care brand Ultra Violette, this has a serum-like consistency and contains vitamin E, squalane, niacinamide and vitamin C.
Feels weightless on the skin; doesn’t clog pores; layers well with other products; evens out skin tone; doesn’t irritate skin; makes skin look glowing and healthy; very high factor SPF
Those with oily skin types might find it too glowy; the bottle gets a little messy after a while, not the cheapest
Once applied, I honestly can’t get over how good it makes my skin look without any make-up on. It leaves it looking glowing and healthy, with minor imperfections evened out. Even though it’s not pigmented, it does have some sort of skin-perfecting wizardry in it, and it’s probably the only skincare product I’ve ever tried that leaves me confident enough about my skin to skip foundation or other make-up face base – something that never happens.
It doesn’t stay looking quite so gorgeous all day long, but then again you are supposed to reapply your SPF every few hours (a super-fine sunscreen face mist like this one is the perfect solution if you wear make-up).
The only shoppers who I think might not totally love this are those with very oily skin, or who prefer a matte skin finish. Otherwise, I can’t recommend it enough; it’s one of the best face SPFs I’ve ever tried.
Our head of shopping Zoe is also a big fan. In her round-up of the best new mineral sunscreens, she says, “I really, really like this, which isn’t something I say lightly about an SPF. It’s the perfect balance of hydration and blur, giving my skin a really natural, glowy finish. I was honestly expecting it to feel heavy or chalky, but it’s the complete opposite—it’s so lightweight that I forget I even have it on. It melts right in, no weird white cast, just smooth, healthy-looking skin.”
Zoe also loves Lancaster Sun Beauty Sensitive Skin Mineral Face Cream SPF50, currently reduced from £27 to £21.60, while if your skin is fine with chemical sun creams, I don’t think you can beat Garnier Ambre Solaire for high street options: Ultra-Light Sensitive Sun Protection Face Fluid SPF50+, now £8.71, and Vitamin C Daily UV Fluid SPF50+ Invisible, now £8.66, are both brilliant.
