Huyton: Police attend scene following an incident
Police in Merseyside sealed off a number of roads this afternoon after receiving reports of an emergency incident.
Armed officers were reported to be at the scene this afternoon in the Huyton area. Photographs showed an air ambulance landing in the car park of a leisure centre, while another shows a number of emergency services vehicles lined up, including ambulances. A helicopter was seen circling the area, and a police cordon was put in place at both ends of the road. Merseyside Police later confirmed a hoax call had been made about a domestic incident, sparking the emergency response.
A force statement said: “We can confirm that a hoax call was made to Merseyside Police earlier today, Wednesday 19 February. At around 3pm, it was reported that a serious domestic incident had occurred inside a house on Warwick Road, in Huyton. Officers attended the scene, but no one was present inside the property and the incident was stood down.”
One local eyewitness said police cars and ambulances were parked outside a leisure centre, reports the Echo. Local residents on social media said 7 ambulances and 12 police vehicles are at the scene.
Huyton is a town of around 33,00 people in the Metropolitan Borough of Knowsley in Merseyside. In government statistics, it is regarded as part of the Liverpool ‘built-up area’, which also includes the town of Knowsley, St Helens and Bootle.
