If you are looking for something for a creative friend or child, this is perfect
If, like me, you have been on all corners of TikTok this year, the chances are you have come across colouring TikTok. This cute and cosy hobby has filled my fyp [for you page] with aesthetically pleasing videos of people taking time out from their busy lives to sit quietly and complete beautiful pictures.
As with anything, there are certain ways the colouring girlies approach this hobby and certain items they use for the best results. One of them is the type of markers you use to colour, all the TikTokers in the know use alcohol markers because they don’t leave colouring lines and of them the Ohuhu brand is the one to get.
TikToks of people unboxing their shipment of Ohuhu markers is a subsection all of its own – and yes, I watch them too. The alcohol markers can be a little on the expensive side, but Ohuhu has recently relaunched its water-based markers.
The Pupe Paper-friendly Colour Markers claim to be unlike many water-based inks that can damage paper, cause smudging, or result in unwanted fluffing after multiple layers as they “have been formulated to produce significantly less paper damage to maintain the integrity of the paper”.
You can get a pack of 59 duel tip coloured markers and one colourless blender for £30.95 on Amazon or £26 (plus postage and packaging) from the Ohuhu website. While still a higher price than some on the market, these are fantastic quality and I would love to find these under the tree at any age.
They come in a wonderful storage case that is easy to access each pen and great to store them after use, which I appreciate. The set includes both a 1-7mm soft brush tip and a 0.4mm fineliner, providing flexibility for various artistic needs.
The brush tip is ideal for smooth shading, blending, and large area colouring, while the fineliner allows for intricate detailing, doodling, and writing with pinpoint accuracy. This dual-tip design makes the markers versatile enough for everything from bold illustrations to delicate line work.
After testing them out, you really can put a lot of colour down and it does not leak through the paper like an alcohol marker. But they do not blend as well as an alcohol marker, leaving some lines if you don’t colour quick enough.
But, these are very versatile. I tried them on watercolour paper and they can be used with a touch of water to move around the paper like watercolour paints. You can either put colour down first and then add water or add dabs of ink from the markers to water on the paper.
This makes them perfect for budding artists in your life this Christmas and I highly recommend them for their look, quality and versatility. Now, if only I can resist the alcohol-based set…
