British high streets once buzzed with retail powerhouses that countless generations of shoppers recognised and relied upon. From thriving department stores to beloved restaurant chains, these brands formed the backbone of British retail and daily life.
However, within just a handful of years, many once-legendary businesses have vanished entirely. Molly Monks, business insolvency specialist and founder of insolvency practice Parker Walsh, explained: “The current social media movement of nostalgia for 2016 has people of all ages sharing their favourite memories from a decade ago.
“But some notable businesses that were staples on the UK high street at that time no longer trade today, so we can only treasure the memories they brought us.” Here are eight retailers that have disappeared from our high streets.
