‘I liked it better than the Charlotte Tilbury when it first came out and it’s still a classic. You can use it all over your face or as a highlighter-definitely worth it’
Many beauty lovers will no doubt be ditching the heavy foundations in favour of something a little lighter as the weather warms up, and now makeup fans have been raving about a £16 ‘liquid filter’ product they say is ‘the best summer skin tint ever.’ The e.l.f. Halo Glow Liquid Filter comes in a variety of shades, and is a glowy makeup and skincare hybrid.
This means it gives users a radiant-looking complexion that’s perfect for summer plans. What’s more, the handy product can be used multiple ways; alone, over or under makeup, mixed with foundation or as a highlighter.
As a beauty writer I can certainly attest to its buildable formula and glowy finish. Personally I’ve always liked to wear it over makeup or alone for days when I want a little less coverage. I’m also a big fan of the doefoot applicator that makes it easy to apply with minimal mess, unlike many other base products that have a tendency to get mucky in my makeup bag.
Elsewhere, shoppers may wish to check out the KIKO Milano Glow Fusion Highlighting Drops 10ml which come in three colours at LookFantastic and can be mixed with foundation or used on the high points of the face. They’re infused with reflective pearl pigments to give wearers a radiant look, and are budget-friendly costing £11.49 each.
At Cult Beauty, Charlotte Tilbury’s Hollywood Flawless Filter is hugely popular and retails for £40. Described on the beauty retailer’s website as a ‘customisable complexion booster’ it comprises a primer, highlighter and skin tint all in one handy product.

Back to the e.l.f. Halo Glow Liquid Filter, and the beauty brand says the base product is suitable for dry, oily, and combination skin. Having used it on my oily complexion I can confirm it doesn’t slide and is easy to blend, plus I couldn’t ‘feel’ it on my skin, making it perfect for holidays and daily wear during the summer.
It seems I’m not the product’s only fan either, as the Halo Glow Liquid Filter boasts a huge number of glowing reviews on the e.l.f. website. Its current review score stands at a rather impressive 4.6 out of five stars from over 9,400 ratings.
One makeup lover said: “Holy grail. This product did not disappoint! Wow, I absolutely love it. It goes on super creamy and feels hydrating on the skin. This is my new makeup bag staple. I have already told all my friends to buy this as well!”
Another wrote: “Perfect. I’m not a big foundation person and I love this.
“I liked it better than the Charlotte Tilbury when it first came out and it’s still a classic. You can use it all over your face or as a highlighter-definitely worth it.”
A third raved: “This is the best foundation I’ve used in a while, I’ve been told by many I look like I’m glowing.”
Meanwhile another urged fellow beauty lovers to shop the product as soon as possible, commenting: “This is the best summer skin tint ever – buy this now!”
However, it is worth noting that one makeup fan didn’t get on so well with the formula, writing: “I bought it a couple of weeks ago, I like it, it’s just I have to mix it with some moisturiser because it doesn’t blend that well.”
Despite this, someone else raved about the e.l.f. Halo Glow Liquid Filter for holidays, commenting: “I love the buildable courage and the ultimate holiday glow that this gives! The packaging is also elite!”
A further reviewer praised it for mature skin, writing: “That dewy look I’ve lost with age. I always use a little highlighter on my cheeks and nose etc, but by using this before any other make up, it gives me a lovely ‘inner glow’ and as a 63-year-old woman, I really want that dewy look that’s been lost with age.
“My husband noticed my ‘lovely’ makeup the other day and he thinks I’m gorgeous, even when I look like I’ve been pulled through a hedge, so that’s fantastic! It’s definitely not a foundation, but I can get away with using it on a no makeup up day, just with some concealer and my skin is by no means perfect. I love it.”
