A man has been arrested after leaving three school children injured outside a day care centre following an “attack”.
The horror incident unfolded in the Swiss city of Zurich shortly after midday local time on the Berninastrasse. Local residents reported seeing terrified parents running to find their children as news of the attack emerged.
‘There are at least six to seven police cars on site. The ambulance is also on the square with several vehicles,’ an eyewitness told local media. Police said they have now arrested the man suspected of carrying out the ‘violent crime’, but there is currently no further details about the nature of the broad daylight attack.
A hotline has been set up for worries parents by the authorities. However, there is no longer a risk posed to the public after police detained the suspect.
A statement from the Zurich police reads: “On Tuesday afternoon, October 1, 2024, a man in District 11 attacked and injured several children. The alleged perpetrator was arrested. October 1, 2024, 2:04pm Shortly after 12 p.m., the Zurich city police were alerted to a violent crime on Berninastrasse.
“Three children were injured. In this context, a suspected person was arrested. There is no longer any danger to the population. Further information will follow at a later date. A hotline has been set up for relatives on 044 411 71 17. The familiar number still applies to media professionals.”
