A man in his 20s suffered serious burns to his body after a kettle of boiling water was allegedly thrown at him in a shared house.

Gloria Maruchu, 28, has been charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent and assault by beating in connection with the incident in Nottingham. Police were called to a shared occupancy house in Charles Avenue, Lenton Abbey, on the morning of March 8 after water was reportedly thrown at the man.

He was taken to hospital for treatment having sustained extensive scalding and burns to the right side of his body. Nottinghamshire Police said a small amount of boiling water reportedly landed on a second person but they were not injured.

Maruchu, of Charles Avenue, was granted conditional bail when she appeared at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Monday, March 10. The conditions include living at an alternative address and she will next appear at Nottingham Crown Court on April 8.

A statement in full by Nottinghamshire Police read: “A woman is due in court after a man sustained serious burns at an address in Lenton Abbey. Police were called to a shared occupancy house in Charles Avenue after a kettle of boiling water was reportedly thrown at the man.

“The victim, in his 20s, sustained extensive scalding and burns to right side of his body and was taken to hospital for treatment. A small amount of boiling water reportedly landed on a second person but they were not injured. The incident happened at approximately 8.30am on Saturday (8 March).

“Gloria Maruchu, of Charles Avenue, Lenton Abbey, was arrested and charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent and assault by beating. The 28-year-old appeared at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court, pictured, yesterday (Monday 10 March) and was granted conditional bail – including living at an alternative address – until her next appearance at Nottingham Crown Court on 8 April 2025.”
