Laundry expert Ann Russell revealed a simple hack to dry clothes fast and avoid a damp smell, which is particularly useful during the wet and cold winter months

As the cold and wet winter looms, combined with skyrocketing energy costs, drying laundry is becoming a real headache for many households.

With the cost of living crisis biting, the luxury of quickly drying clothes using a tumble dryer or cranking up the heating is off the table for those trying to keep their bills down. The dilemma is real: how to dry your washing without that musty, damp scent? No one fancies stepping out in clothes that reek of mildew.

Enter TikTok’s cleaning sensation Ann Russell, whose budget-friendly tip could be a game-changer for many. Ann’s no-nonsense approach has won her a legion of followers, including one desperate fan who reached out over a particularly stinky problem. In her viral advice, Ann insists on folding everything “neatly” and “not too thick”, and placing a fan near the clotheshorse.

She explains: “Everything is folded neatly and the reason is when the fan goes up, the air goes through, it needs to be able to move, evaporate the water off. If it’s too thick or clumpy it won’t get rid of the water and then it will smell.”

This laundry whizz has taken the internet by storm, with her original video racking up nearly 250,000 views and a flood of thankful comments. Commenting on the video, one follower shared their own handy tip: “What I find helps is turning them over after a few hours so the air can circulate to areas it may not reach!”

Another user added: “Putting stuff on hangers seems to help and spacing them out hanging them on door frames. “For those struggling with drying bulkier items, a third user said: “I’ve found with towels I just hang them over the doors to dry and then within a day or so they are dry and I have a second airer that I use to space out.”
