A man was captured on a Ring doorbell camera looking straight into the woman’s home before creeping down an alley, and then her cockapoo puppy disappeared, as police launched a dog theft probe

A man walked into a house in the middle of the night and stole a family’s beloved cockapoo puppy Renée, a heartbroken mum has claimed. The man was spotted on a Ring doorbell cam skulking outside the home, she said. Someone then strolled in through the back door and took the dog from its cage, before darting out of sight, she said.

Mckenzie said she’s desperate for the puppy to be returned for her kids. Kent Police confirmed it launched an investigation after reports of a puppy theft at about 1am last night.

A man was captured on the doorbell cam wearing a a grey tracksuit with the hood pulled over his head. Mckenzie said he looked straight into the home before creeping down an alley, into the back door, and, she believes, taking poor Renée.

“My teenage daughter was just upstairs, chilling out for a little while and she’d just had a little bit to eat,” she told the Mirror. “The puppy started crying, so my daughter went downstairs to let her out in the garden.

“She’s brought her back in, put her back into the cage, and forgotten to lock up the back door. Between 12.55am, and 1.05am, somebody has gotten into my house, and into the play area.

“I phoned the police, and they sent out a canine dog response, and then I’ve had forensics out this morning taking fingerprints from the back door and things like that. I managed to get footage and a glimpse of the person who’s done it, so that’s with the police as well.”

Mckenzie reached out on Facebook to try and track down the man caught on her camera. She wrote: “Does anyone have any idea who this person is?? And if you know the whereabouts of our dog please, at 1am this morning a motion detector got set off on my Ring doorbell. He looked at the Ring doorbell, and a man in a grey tracksuit walked right down our alley, in our back door and stole my dog. But just before, he had stared into our house.

“Please please, does anyone know him and if you see or notice my dog in any whereabouts, can you Dm me please? Our dog breed is a cockapoo and you can see the colours of her in the photos.”

Kent Police also urged anybody with information to come forward. A police statement read: “Kent Police is investigating the reported theft of a puppy during a burglary at a residential address in Sittingbourne.

“The incident happened at around 1am on Friday April 11 2025, and an investigation is underway to recover the black and white cockapoo. Anyone with information that may assist should call 01795 419119, quoting crime refence 46/59757/25.”
