The police investigation led to the discovery of a woman’s body inside the boot of a vehicle on a residential road in Ilford and officers are treating the death as suspicious

A murder probe has been launched after the body of a young woman was found in the boot of a car on the Essex border.

Northamptonshire Police launched the investigation amid concern for the welfare of a woman, 24, from Corby, on November 13. Officers from the Metropolitan Police made the discovery following reports from their Northamptonshire colleagues.

Police shut off access to the park, near Brisbane Road, with forensics teams being seen investigating the area around the car. The Met Police said they were alerted about the missing woman earlier this month.

The Mirror has contacted the Met and Northamptonshire police for comment.

A Met Police spokesperson told The Sun: “Shortly after midnight on the morning of Thursday, 14 November, the Met was contacted by officers from Northamptonshire Police raising concerns for the welfare of a woman who was believed to be in a car in the east London area.

“The car was located parked in Brisbane Road, Ilford and the body of a 24-year-old woman was found inside the vehicle. Her death is being treated as suspicious.”

No arrests have been made as of Saturday afternoon and an investigation into the death is ongoing. Post mortem examination results have not been released.

The spokesperson told The Sun: “We continue to liaise with colleagues from Northamptonshire Police and at this time this is being treated as an isolated incident.”

Northamptonshire Police superintendent Steve Freeman said in a statement: “Fast-track enquiries were made which sadly led to the discovery of a woman’s body inside the boot of a vehicle in the Ilford area of London. We are treating the death as suspicious and a murder investigation has been launched.

“Detectives from the East Midlands Special Operations Unit Major Crime Team and the Metropolitan Police have been working at pace to establish the circumstances that led to the woman’s death.

“The investigation is ongoing and there will be continued police activity over the weekend in various locations, including Corby and Ilford.

“Although we believe that this was a targeted incident and there is no wider risk to members of the public, extra patrols will be taking place in Corby in the coming days for reassurance purposes.”
