If you’re dealing with a mouse infestation, there is a simple and effective method to keep mice out of your home and ensure they don’t return – and it won’t break the bank

Dealing with a mouse problem in your home or garden can be a real headache.

You might be tempted to get some poison traps to try and get rid of them – but these days, many people prefer to use natural methods to get rid of these pests. By choosing the eco-friendly route, you not only find a more sustainable solution, but also reduce the risks associated with using chemical-laden products. You’ll save money, too.

One clever way to stay one step ahead of the pesky critters is by studying their behaviour and then implementing natural deterrents. Hearing scurrying or scratching noises in your home is a clear sign of a mouse problem, but other lesser-known indicators include tail or footprint marks in dusty areas or grease marks along walls.

Luckily, there’s a simple and effective method to keep mice at bay and ensure they don’t return. Mice are known to detest certain smells that irritate their nasal passages, keeping them away.

One woman has shared her bargain tip for a rodent-free home that will deter them and ensure they don’t come back reports the Express. TikTok user Madame Sweat revealed her budget-friendly method, claiming it “sends mice running”. The social media user advised: “If you don’t want to set traps, you just want the mice to stay away, you want to use peppermint essential oil.”

Essential oils are being celebrated as a top-notch natural mouse repellent due to their potent aromas which mice despise, with specialists pointing out peppermint oil as exceptionally effective in warding off rodents. The savvy TikToker advised: “Here’s the trick, don’t put the peppermint oil on cotton balls, people recommend that but it’ll just evaporate. Wool holds the smell of the essential oils much longer. Think of your wool coat when it picks up the fragrance that you’re wearing and it stays on your coat. Wool is the best fabric to hold essential oils, you can even use them to scent your closets.”

The overpowering scents from these essential oils baffle mice’s olfactory receptors, making it tough for them to navigate and communicate, ultimately interfering with their ability to find food, establish nests or even roam freely. This means they will avoid areas where the scent is prominent.

Additionally, experts have discovered that peppermint oil effectively erases mice’s pheromone trails, adding another layer of deterrence, while the intense eucalyptus aroma is also a repellent. Research has found that daily application of eucalyptus oil was significantly more efficient than weekly usage.
