An elderly woman in her 80s has sadly died following a house fire in Dublin this evening, authorities have confirmed.

Emergency services including Dublin Fire Brigade and Gardai responded to the scene at Mountain Park after initial calls came in at around 7pm. Crews rushed to the Millbrook Lawns area of Tallaght in Dublin where upon arrival crews were met with a fire within a residential home.

The woman’s body has been removed from the scene with a post-mortem examination due to take place. While the cause of the fire is not yet known, an investigation of the scene will be carried out in due course.

A Gardai spokesperson told Dublin Live: “Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of a fatal house fire as a residential property in Mountain Park, Tallaght this evening Wednesday, 23rd April 2025 at approximately 6:50pm. A woman, aged in her 80s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Her body has been removed from the scene to the Dublin City Mortuary in Whitehall, where a post-mortem examination will be conducted. The fire was extinguished by Dublin Fire Brigade. A technical examination of the scene will be conducted in due course.”

It is not clear if neighbouring properties were damaged by the fire or if residents were evacuated.

Tallaght, which had a population of 81,022 according to the 2022 census, is a sprawling suburb near the Dublin Mountains. It has a busy village core of traditional pubs and casual eateries, plus The Square mall.
