Liam Moor, 19, has been charged with one count of manslaughter and has been remanded in custody after Lisa Denton, 40, died from a serious head injury following a suspected assault

A woman in her 40s has died after suffering a serious head injury following a suspected assault outside a bar.

Liam Moor, 19, has been charged with one count of manslaughter after Lisa Denton, 40, was rushed to hospital in a critical condition shortly after 10pm on Saturday. Emergency services raced to Charlie’s Bar on Russell Street and placed a cordon around the building, which remains closed.

Despite the best efforts of medical staff, Ms Denton died a short time later. The teenager was then arrested on suspicion of murder.

Moor, 19, of Telford Street in the East Howdon area, is now facing a charge of one count of manslaughter and has been remanded in custody to appear before Bedlington Magistrates’ Court.

A woman in her 50s was also arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and has been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Chief Inspector, Mark Atherton, said: “This is an incredibly tragic incident where a woman has sadly lost her life. Our thoughts remain firmly with Lisa’s loved ones at this time.

“We will continue to support them as they try to navigate a life without Lisa.”

He added: “With proceedings now active, we would ask that the public avoid speculation, both online and in the community, and respect the ongoing legal process.”
