A woman was left in hysterics when she found a hidden treasure stashed in her bargain blazer she picked up from her local charity shop – and couldn’t believe how long it must have been in there

When you buy clothes from a charity shop, you don’t tend to think too much about the previous owner – unless they leave little clues.

One woman was shocked when she picked up a jacket from her local charity shop, to find the previous owner had left something in the pocket. Kay Walker left Emmaus Mossley in Ashton-under-Lyne, Greater Manchester with her new blazer so paid just £1 for. Happy with her purchase, she put it on before heading to a party and found two old tickets stashed in her pocket. She pulled out two tickets for a Luciano Pavarotti concert from nearly 20 years ago.

The concert took place at the Manchester Arena on 30 September 1995, and the previous owner had splashed out on the pair of £55 tickets. Pavarotti became famous for singing Nessun Dorma for the Italia 90 World Cup and died in 2007 aged 71. Kay said: “I couldn’t believe it when I found the tickets in my pocket. I usually wash everything we get from the charity shop but it was so last minute I shoved it on as we went out the door.

“It wasn’t until I got to the venue of the party that I put my hand in my pocket and found the tickets. I wouldn’t call myself a die-hard Pavarotti fan but of course, I know a lot of his famous songs. We did Google it after to see when his last gig was and found out he’d passed away 15 years ago.”

Kay was with her daughter Ellena when she found the tickets, and laughed that the pair always go to concerts together. She added: “We’re always going to concerts at the Manchester arena together but I couldn’t have taken Ellena to Pavarotti as she wasn’t even born yet.” Open University worker Ellena, from Hyde said: “We were laughing our heads off when we found them. My mum purchased the jacket from Emmaus Mossley, a huge charity shop that helps support homeless people. She purchased it on the day she wore it.

“There’s been so many times we’ve had nothing to wear somewhere and we’ve got an outfit at the last minute because we literally go charity shopping together every Saturday. She had no clue there was anything in the pockets, we only usually find either receipts or toffees. But never concert tickets.”
