A 53-year-old woman and four children were injured in a car crash near Burton Constable, East Yorkshire, with a 44-year-old man arrested on suspicion of drink-driving

A man has been arrested on suspicion of drink-driving after a crash left a woman and four children injured.

The collision involving a BMW and a Toyota took place on New Ellerby Road near Burton Constable, East Yorkshire, at around 4.30pm on Friday. A 53-year-old woman – the Toyota driver – and four children in the car were rushed to hospital.

One child sustained injuries believed to be life-changing, Humberside Police said. The woman and another child were treated for serious injuries that are not thought to be life-changing, while the two other children received treatment at hospital.

Police are working to establish the circumstances of the collision. It is understood the BMW was travelling northbound along New Ellerby Road when it collided with the Toyota, which was travelling in the opposite direction.

A 44-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, driving while over the legal alcohol limit and failing to provide a specimen for analysis.

Officers are continuing to investigate the collision and are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or has CCTV or dashcam footage from the area to call 101, quoting log 317 of 6 March.
