Eyewitnesses claimed there was a brawl among teenagers in Nottingham city centre this evening – just two weeks after police launched a hunt for a group of youths who had machetes
Police were called to Nottingham city centre this evening as a large group of young people allegedly brawled near Winter Wonderland.
Officers were called to a street near Old Market Square at around 6pm. Eyewitnesses said they saw groups of teenagers – wearing lanyards that resembled those handed to school or college students – confront each other.
Youths then spat at the police and recorded the chaos that unfolded in the rainy city street, according to witnesses. People near the tram stop were also heard screaming. It is unclear whether anyone was injured during the incident. When Nottinghamshire Live arrived at the scene, there was no police cordon in the surrounding area.
A picture posted online showed a dozen officers interspersed in a peaceful crowd on South Parade. However, the photo seemed to be taken after the incident had dispersed.
Trams were briefly prevented from running due to the trouble around the Old Market Square stop, according to a post by operator NET at 6.11pm, but the network was fully operational by 6.51pm.
The Mirror has contacted Nottinghamshire Police for an update.
