BBC Bargain Hunt expert Jonathan Pratt has estimated the value of the dazzling costume pieces and premier looks used in Wicked: For Good, with some of Glinda and Elphaba’s jewels worth a small fortune in real life

Film fans are excited that Wicked: For Good is finally hitting cinemas on November 21, and Universal Pictures certainly haven’t skimped on the movie, as they recently revealed they went over budget as costs soared to $455.8 million (£364.4 million). Jonathan Pratt, Managing Director at Dawsons Auction s and expert at BBC’s Bargain Hunt has estimated the value of their dazzling costume pieces and premier looks, with some of Glinda and Elphaba’s jewels worth a small fortune in real life.

Some of the estimated costs reach into the millions, however Wicked fans can get one necklace from the film for just £100. Check out Wicked’s wardrobe decoded below…

Glinda’s white gold tiara and wand: £15,000 on set, £1.1million if real

One of the most iconic costume pieces of the movie is Ariana Grande ’s Glinda’s tiara and matching wand. Although not made from genuine stones, Jonathan Pratt at Dawsons Auctions creating a prop of this scale and intricacy would cost between £7,000 and £14,000.

According to Jonathan, a London “hero build” of this kind would likely feature plated base-metal frames, Swarovski-type crystals, and around two to four weeks of hand-finishing. The cost is driven primarily by labour rather than materials, with meticulous stone-setting and plating work dominating the final price. Factoring in provenance and screen use, the set could easily command a £15,000 valuation.

If the same tiara and wand were to be crafted from platinum and 150 carats of natural diamonds, handmade in London, however, the numbers would rise sharply. Using live UK platinum pricing and wholesale diamond indices (such as IDEX), Jonathan estimates the manufacture cost alone at £580,000–£1,030,000 before accounting for retail or provenance markups.

Commissioned through a top French atelier, that figure could comfortably exceed £1.1 million, placing Glinda’s accessories among Hollywood’s most valuable on-screen creations.

In comparison, one of the most iconic props from the original The Wizard of Oz (1939), Glinda the Good Witch’s wand, recently sold at auction for an incredible $109,375 (£83,210). Offered for the first time at auction by Studio Auctions in September 2024, the 53-inch aluminium wand features a five-pointed star encrusted with faceted clear crystals and was one of only two known test wands created during production.

While not used in the final film, the prop was photographed with actress Billie Burke by legendary Hollywood photographer Clarence Sinclair Bull. According to the auction notes, it remains one of the few surviving artefacts from MGM’s golden era, making it a rare and glittering piece of cinema history.

Wicked: Glinda’s daytime necklace: £60

Glinda’s butterfly necklace worn in movie one has gone viral, and you can actually purchase it for yourself! Eagle-eyed viewers quickly identified the sparkling butterfly necklace worn by Ariana Grande’s Glinda and it turns out, it’s not a one-of-a-kind movie prop.

The piece, known as the “Lilia” necklace, is a Swarovski design featuring delicate butterfly motifs that mirror Glinda’s ethereal aesthetic. TikTok users have flooded the platform with unboxing videos, showing off the exact necklace from the film.

It’s currently available online at Swarovski for £59.50. In a world of movie wardrobes worth millions, this might be the rare moment fans can actually afford a piece of Hollywood magic.

Cynthias’s Wicked premier emerald diamond necklace: £570,000

Cynthia Erivo completed Wicked premier look in her vibrant green Louis Vuitton gown with an 18k white gold diamond and emerald collar from Roberto Coin’s Haute Couture Collection, valued at $750,000 (£570,000) along with a pair of 18k white gold and diamond ‘Stelle Button’ earrings from the Cento Collection, worth $59,600 (£45,357). Her look was finished with a cluster of 18k white gold, diamond, and emerald rings from the Love in Verona Collection, perfectly complementing the gown’s emerald tones.

Not to be out-sparkled, Ariana Grande lit up the Wicked premiere in Sydney wearing an exceptional Lorraine Schwartz butterfly choker and matching ring, featuring more than 100 carats of natural diamonds. The centrepiece was a couture choker set with around 90 carats of diamonds, which was custom-made for Grande by Schwartz, one of Hollywood’s most sought-after red-carpet jewellers.

Jonathan at Dawsons Auctions estimates that the suite could retail up to $2 million (£1.5million) from a top French atelier, reflecting its exceptional carat weight, bespoke craftsmanship, and designer provenance.

High-carat, couture pieces of this calibre typically sit within the seven-figure range when created by houses such as Bulgari or Van Cleef & Arpels, with red-carpet exposure adding significant premium.

Wicked: For Good: Glinda’s butterfly necklace: £190,000

Spotted in the Wicked: For Good clips released online, Glinda is spotted wearing a more extravagant version of her daytime butterfly necklace in movie one. Jewellery lovers on Reddit have already sparked speculation on Reddit, debating its origins and possible price tag. According to Jonathan, the “upgraded” piece could be valued at around $250,000 (£190,000) if produced by a top French atelier such as Van Cleef & Arpels, but a serious diamond load depending on total carats and design complexity could push the price well beyond $1 million (£760,000) in retail or replacement value.

Smaller designs from Van Cleef’s Two Butterfly collection already retail for around £15,000 in UK stores, but a large-scale necklace featuring a high carat weight and intricate craftsmanship would easily reach mid-six figures or more, depending on total diamonds and design complexity.
