Furious customers of TSB Bank have today complained that their Child Benefit has not hit their account as expected today – here is everything you need to know

Hundreds of frustrated parents have complained their Child Benefit payments have not been paid as expected today.

This benefit is worth £25.60 a week for your first child, then £16.95 a week for any additional child you may have. You normally receive it straight into your bank account every four weeks, on a Monday or Tuesday, and it is paid by HMRC.

But furious customers of TSB Bank have today complained that their Child Benefit has not hit their account as expected today. It comes after half a million people were left without their Child Benefit payment in June after a technical issue at HMRC. The issue today is unrelated to this.

Some TSB customers suggested other payments haven’t been paid today either. We explain everything we know so far about what is going on.

Why has my Child Benefit not been paid?

The issue only appears to be affecting TSB customers – HMRC tells us that the issue is related to the bank, rather than its own system. This means there doesn’t appear to be a wider issue with Child Benefit payments – however, TSB customers are experiencing issues off the back of the bank glitch.

In a post on X/ Twitter, one person said: “TSB, I’ve received other benefit payments into my TSB account today just not Child Benefit.” In reply to this, another person said: “I’ve not had my CB either.” A third person fumed: “How do I go about making a complaint on my money not going in, I have bills to pay today that have bounced and I’ve got another few days until wages this is just not acceptable.”

What does TSB say?

TSB – which has over five million customers in the UK – confirmed it is experiencing issues and is working on a fix. It isn’t clear what exactly is causing the glitch. A spokesperson from TSB said: “We’re aware of an issue with some BACS payments not yet showing on customers’ accounts. We are working on fixing this and will provide an update as soon as possible.”

What does HMRC say?

HMRC confirmed to The Mirror that the problem is related to TSB, rather than an issue with HMRC. HMRC has replied to some people on X, telling them to contact their bank first if they’ve yet to receive their Child Benefit payment. They added: “We are aware of this and understand this relates to issues certain banking providers are experiencing.”

Am I entitled to compensation?

If your bank services have gone down, you aren’t automatically entitled to any compensation – it instead depends on how badly the outage has affected you. For example, if it made you miss a bill or some sort of payment. It also depends on how long the service disruption lasts for and how quickly the bank worked to resolve it.

TSB has a dedicated pages online to help you make a complaint. If you’re considering making a complaint, you should gather evidence about how the service issues affected you and for how long. For example, if it made you miss a bill or if affected your credit score.
