Mohamed Salah’s controversial interview has seen him left out of Arne Slot’s squad, who face last season’s runner-up at the San Siro.
Liverpool’s UEFA Champions League campaign continues tonight as they travel to Italy to face Inter Milan. Arne Slot’s side will meet last season’s runner-up in the sixth round of League Phase fixtures after a busy weekend for the club.
Mohamed Salah stole the headlines with a controversial interview after Liverpool’s 3-3 draw with Leeds United on Saturday. The winger said he has been ‘thrown under the bus’ following a series of disappointing results that saw him on the bench for the past three games.
It’s now been confirmed that Reds boss Slot has left Salah out of the squad that travelled to Milan for tonight’s game, with it yet to be seen if he will feature against Brighton on Saturday before he leaves for the Africa Cup of Nations. Hugo Ekitiké is expected to start up front tonight after scoring twice against Leeds.
The situation is an unwanted distraction for the Premier League champions, who have endured a tough few months with just seven wins in 15 games leaving them 11th in the table. In Europe, they sit 13th after three wins from five, with tonight’s fixture coming against a tough opponent and last season’s runner-up.
Inter Milan fell at the final hurdle last season when they were demolished 5-0 in the final against Paris Saint-Germain. They currently sit in fourth place in a tight race for second that sees them level on points with PSG, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid, all of whom are chasing leaders Arsenal.
Unlike most Champions League games, tonight’s fixture won’t be broadcast on TNT Sports, but there is a way for Liverpool fans to watch the game for free.
