Brendan Rogers’ side go into the second leg 2-1 down, but Bayern could be without Harry Kane after the England skipper picked up an injury on Saturday
Celtic’s UEFA Champions League campaign continues on Tuesday as they face Bayern Munich in the second leg of their knockout tie. The Scottish champions travel to Germany 2-1 down, with a tough night in store at the Allianz Arena.
Brendan Rogers’ side are in the knockout rounds for the first time in 12 years, but could be heading home early. They are up against the six-times European champions, who boast some big names including England captain Harry Kane and Germany’s Thomas Muller, both of which pose a threat in front of goal.
Tuesday’s game marks the first time the two sides have ever met in a knockout tie, having previously only met in Champions League group stage games. Celtic have never beaten Bayern in the competition, but Hoops fans were given a glimmer of hope thanks to Daizen Maeda’s late goal in the first leg.

There’s also a chance Bayern could be without Kane, as the former Spurs striker missed training on Monday to recover from a facial injury picked up against Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday. Bayern boss Vincent Kompany said the injury is ‘nothing bad’ but will be assessed ahead of the game on Tuesday, Sky Sports reported.
Whether Kane features or not, Rogers is well aware of the challenge his side faces. Speaking to Sky Sports on Monday, he said: “It is a challenge at this level, but it’s something we want to embrace. When you get to this point, you want to play top-level teams. This is a team that has world-class players. I think it’s just spelling out that you come to this level and you have to play without any fear.”
