MMRDA has invited tenders for a new access-controlled highway to connect Mumbai and Navi Mumbai with suburban towns.

The project, first proposed in 2023 by MP Dr Shrikant Shinde, aims to reduce lengthy commute times from areas like Badlapur and Kalyan.

Current journey times are approximately 2.5-3 hours to Mumbai and 1.5-2 hours to Navi Mumbai from Badlapur.

The highway will begin near Mumbai-Vadodara National Highway in Badlapur and extend through Palegaon and East Kalyan.

The route will connect with Metro-12 at Hedutane, the Kalyan Ring Road, and the Multi-Modal Corridor at Shirdhon.

The project will benefit residents of Badlapur, Ambernath, Ulhasnagar, Kalyan, Dombivli and 27 surrounding villages.
