Temperatures are set to soar well above the monthly average in the UK as advanced weather modelling maps show conditions here will soon be better than in Madrid

Brits look set to bask in some balmy temperatures in just a few days’ time as advanced weather modelling maps show exactly when the mercury should soar.

In fact, temperatures here could soon match those in the Spanish of Madrid. It comes as the Met Office has said Brits can expect some “fine” weather at the start of next month.

The daily average temperature high across the UK for March sits at around 9C. Yet the GFS weather model shows temperatures in central and southern England rising well above this from March 6 to March 8. The data suggests temperatures could reach highs of 13C quite widely on March 6, with 12C to 15C highs possible in England and Wales on March 7. And on March 8, temperatures could reach 16C.

Weather maps for March 8 show those in the south-east can expect the best of the weather, with 14C to 15C possible for much of the rest of England. Wales could see highs of 13C. Sadly however, Northern Ireland and Scotland aren’t expected to see temperatures rise into double figures.

According to the latest BBC Weather predictions, daytime temperatures in Madrid are only expected to peak at 15C on March 8. Those in the Spanish capital can also expect rain – whereas GFS weather maps don’t show any showers in the UK on the same day.

The Met Office says a “split” in weather conditions is likely at the start of next month, with “fine” conditions on the cards for many. The national weather agency’s forecast for March 2 to March 11 states: “A split in weather conditions is likely across the country for the start of spring. Northwestern areas will see bouts of rain and stronger winds as Atlantic weather systems arrive from the west. These spells of wet and windy weather will move southeast to some degree at times.

“However, high pressure is likely to have more influence across the south of the UK, at least at first. Here, there should be a good deal of fine/dry weather during early March with a chance of night frosts and morning fog patches. Through the course of this period there is an increasing chance of unsettled conditions becoming more dominant across the UK. Temperatures generally around average, notwithstanding some chilly nights, though with milder interludes likely.”
