Police have released footage of a highs-speed pursuit where officers followed a Nissan Qashqai which reached speeds up to 100mph through the streets of Salford
A driver reached speeds of 100mph as he tried to escape police during a terrifying 45 minute chase through the streets of Salford.
Greater Manchester Police have released footage of the pursuit today where officers followed a Nissan Qashqai at around 10.30am as the car sped along 30mph roads, mounted kerbs and drove on the wrong side of the road forcing oncoming traffic to take evasive action.
The driver had been seen driving “dangerously and erratically at high speeds” and then failed to stop for officers, which led to the pursuit, said the force.
A helicopter joined the chase along with 10 police vehicles as the Nissan reached speeds up to 100mph as it meandered its way through Salford, travelled along the East Lancashire Road, going against traffic and even headed through an underground supermarket car park.
Eventually the car was stopped thanks to the use of a stinger and a man, aged 36, was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, driving whilst disqualified and failing to stop. He remains in police custody for questioning.
A woman was taken to hospital with minor injuries after the suspect’s car collided with hers, while an officer also suffered a hand injury during the deployment of the stinger.
Police Sergeant Neil Molloy, of the Specialist Operations Team’s Tactical Vehicle Intercept Unit, said: “This level of driving is obviously extremely dangerous, and I’m thankful to report that no one was seriously hurt during this pursuit.
“The reckless actions of this man put members of the public at risk, and we’re incredibly lucky that no one suffered serious injuries as a result of his actions.
“Driving in this manner through built-up residential areas is completely unacceptable, and I am pleased that our officers acted swiftly and professionally to bring the incident to a safe conclusion, secure an arrest and seize the vehicle.”
The full statement from GMP read: “Officers have been involved in a high-speed pursuit of a Nissan Qashqai that reached speeds of up to 100mph on 30mph streets of Salford at around 10.30am today (28/07/26).
“Officers from our Tactical Vehicle Intercept Unit observed a car being driven dangerously and erratically at high speeds and attempted to stop the vehicle. When the driver failed to stop, a pursuit began across Salford which continued for approximately 45 minutes.
“Helicopters from the National Police Air Service were deployed to aid the pursuit, and a total of 10 police vehicles were involved.
“During the incident, the vehicle travelled along the East Lancashire Road, drove against the flow of traffic around several roundabouts and through an active underground supermarket car park during the daytime.
“Minor damage was caused to a police vehicle when the driver reverse-rammed an unmarked police vehicle. One woman was injured when the suspect’s vehicle collided with her car. She was taken to hospital for treatment for minor injuries.
“The pursuit ended after officers successfully deployed a stinger, bringing the vehicle to a stop. The driver, a 36-year-old man, was subsequently arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, driving whilst disqualified, failing to stop. He remains in police custody for questioning.
“An officer was also taken to hospital for treatment after suffering a hand injury when the stinger was dragged during the incident.”
