Mikel Arteta hopes to welcome back a slew of Arsenal players following the international break, with the Gunners set to host Tottenham in the North London derby

11:11, 11 Nov 2025Updated 11:12, 11 Nov 2025

The international break will give nine Arsenal stars including Viktor Gyokeres the chance to get some extra workload on board and recover from their injuries. Gyokeres, 27, has missed the Gunners’ last two games, having picked up an injury after scoring in their 2-0 win away to Burnley.

Unable to represent Sweden for their final two World Cup qualifying group games, Arsenal’s £64million signing has stayed in North London and will spend time at the club’s training centre. Mirror Football understands that Gyokeres is one of six players hoping to recover from their injuries before Premier League football resumes later this month.

The Gunners host Tottenham in the first North London derby of the season on Sunday, November 23, with Mikel Arteta set to have more options. As well as Gyokeres, Noni Madueke is aiming to fit be for the match, having been out since the middle of September.

Martin Odegaard, Kai Havertz and Gabriel Martinelli are also looking to be available in the coming weeks, as Arsenal prepare for a hectic festive period. In addition, Gabriel Jesus has returned to full training after being out with an ACL injury for 10 months.

The three Arsenal players who aren’t injured but missed out of international call-ups will also be putting in the work over the next fortnight. Kepa Arrizabalaga and Ben White have struggled for minutes this season but Arteta is counting on them over the course of the campaign.

Also not called up to their national team is Myles Lewis-Skelly, who’d been in the previous two England squads. Arteta has said that he’ll be putting an arm around 19-year-old Lewis-Skelly following the disappointment, as the World Cup draws closer.

“Yes, for sure, I think we are here to support and help each other and to give a good perspective of the situation, and in the case of Myles, when you look at his age, what he’s already done, he’s just remarkable,” Arteta commented. “So don’t look at the one moment what is happening for you because maybe it happens for the right reason and today you cannot see it.”

The Gunners boss was also asked to provide an update on Jesus before Saturday’s 2-2 draw at Sunderland. “I don’t know,” Arteta replied. “Now it’s about making the steps day by day in a different surrounding.

“Obviously, he’s been doing everything on his own; now he’s got players around him, very competitive players around him, and see how he copes with that. But he’s full of energy, I love the reaction of all his team-mates when he first joined us and yeah, great to have him back.”
