An urgent recall has been issued by the Office for Product Safety and Standards for a product which has been found to present a ‘serious risk of electric shock’
Shoppers have been issued a rare urgent warning by the UK’s Office for Product Safety and Standards over a product that poses a serious risk of electric shock.
A recall has been issued for the potentially dangerous Silentnight Smart Wi-Fi Plug, with the OPSS saying the product may not make a secure connection with the plug socket.
Issuing a recall notice for the Silentnight Smart Wi-Fi Plug, the OPSS said: “The product presents a serious risk of electric shock because mains plug does meet the dimensional requirements of BS 1363. The socket shutters can get stuck in an open position, allowing a consumer to access the live parts and receive an electric shock.
“There is also insufficient creepage and clearance distance between the mains potential input circuits and low voltage output circuits. The product does not meet the requirements of the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016 or the Plugs and Sockets (Safety) Regulations 1994.
“The product has been recalled from end users by Comfy Quilts. We recommend that you stop using this product immediately and contact recall@silentnight-bedding.co.uk / 0330 107 1052 for next steps.”
