Brits will face wet and unpleasant weather with ‘heavy and blustery’ winds for the rest of the weekend – as upcoming forcasts suggest the rain won’t be easing anytime soon
Rainy weather with “heavy and blustery” winds will continue sweep parts of the UK today, the Met Office has warned.
It follows an already gloomy June forecast which saw some areas battered by huge rainstorms last night, as experts warned that two bands of low pressure could see thousands of Brits battling thunderstorms throughout the month. The Met Office said in an update posted to X that showers will continue into Sunday morning, with longer spells of rain expected in Scotland.
The weather agency said: “Sunny spells and scattered showers for Sunday morning. Longer spells of rain in Scotland, this will be heavy and blustery at times”, accompanied with a graphic which shows rain barrelling across the country, with the highest concentration seen in Scotland.
And conditions only appear to be getting worse, as two streams of low pressure are due to circle the UK next week. The unsettled conditions are linked to fierce thunderstorms set to hit large parts of France. The north-westerly impact of this will see downpours to sweep across Devon and Somerset, in particular, on Wednesday June 19 at around 1pm, early weather graphics indicate.
Forecasters at InMeteo say the whole of Southwest England will endure downpours. Due to a lack of wind, these showers will be slow moving and linger through the afternoon. At the same time, a further band of low pressure – again linked to the storms in France – will work its way southeast along the North Sea coast. The heaviest of this rain will be through Lincolnshire during Wednesday lunchtime.
The two bands sandwich the Midlands, which as a result will be prone to scattered showers as a result of both streams of unpleasant weather.
The Met Office’s weather outlook for today’s weather reads: “Another day of sunshine and showers, heaviest and most frequent in the north, with spells of rain in Northern Ireland. Breezy along the coasts though feeling pleasant in any sunshine.”
Looking ahead for Monday until Wednesday, the forecast says: “Sunny spells and scattered showers Monday, these locally heavy, but some places staying dry. Fewer showers on Tuesday and Wednesday. Feeling warm in the sunshine with winds easing.”
